The Wolfsonian presents Seduce Me, a performance art collaboration by Isabella Rossellini, Andy Byers, and Rick Gilbert.

Commissioned by The Wolfsonian on the occasion of Art Basel Miami Beach/Design Miami, this site specific installation features imaginative paper sculptures made by Andy Byers, and organized in collaboration with Rick Gilbert. Populated by awe-inspiring creatures, and made primarily of paper, this fantasy landscape conveys the complex, ingenious, and precious attributes of nature.

NUTCRACKER CONCERT @ Wolfsonian Museum

NUTCRACKER CONCERT—Come and enjoy a unique version of the beloved Christmas classic, "The Nutcracker," performed by FIU's stellar Amernet String Quartet, accompanied by actors from the FIU Department of Theater, and guest dancer from ROXY Performing Arts Center.

Adapted & directed by Phillip M. Church with guest appearance by Brian Schriner, Dean, College Architecture + the Arts, as Dr. Drosselmeyer.

Co-presented with the FIU College of Architecture, School of Music and Department of Theater, and the FIU Hope for Haiti Task Force. Admission is free with cash donation benefiting FIU's Hope for Haiti Task Force.

Greg LeMond @ The Wolfsonian for BREAKING SPEED LIMITS

The Wolfsonian welcomes Greg LeMond, three-time winner of the Tour de France, the best known and most prestigious three-week bicycle race in the world. LeMond shares his views on challenging and conquering speed limits through his experiences with the Tour and his years at the top of the cycling world.

As the first American to capture the event, LeMond revolutionized the sport in the 1980s and early 1990s. He was the first successful professional to use clipless pedals, cycling eyewear, modern high tech helmets, and aero bars.

To put LeMond's accomplishments in context, the evening kicks off with a glimpse the tour before LeMond conquered it, as we screen Vive Le Tour (1962, France, Louis Malle, 19 min, French with English subtitles, color, DVD).

ART DECO WEEKEND: SELLING GLAMOUR & STYLE

The influence of the Art Deco era on the modern marketing machine is the theme of the thirty-fourth annual Art Deco Weekend, presented by the Miami Design Preservation League. The celebration features lectures co-presented by MDPL and The Wolfsonian and held at The Wolfsonian.

During the 1920s and 30s, advertisers transitioned from simple one-on-one sales pitches to a broader and more subtle style of engaging larger audiences by eliciting feelings and selling ideas.

This new style of promotion coincided with the rise in mass circulation magazines, national radio broadcasts, and the influential power of the motion picture. Advertising was forever altered as a result of these changes.

DYNO'NITE: BOOK TALK Friday, January 28, 7pm

MAURICE FATIO: PALM BEACH ARCHITECT

Kim Mockler presents a talk based on his book, Maurice Fatio: Palm Beach Architect (Acanthus Press, 2010). In the 1920s and 1930s Fatio, along with Addison Mizner and Marion Sims Wyeth, was instrumental in shaping the architecture of Palm Beach and beyond. Many of his houses remain much-admired Florida icons treasured by their owners.

Incorporating a remarkably versatile repertoire of styles including Mediterranean, tropical Art Deco, British Colonial, and Georgian, Fatio's designs were distinguished by their impeccable craftsmanship, restrained good taste, and the integration of every imaginable modern convenience. Through rare historic images and contemporary photographs, Mockler brings to life examples built between 1927 and 1939, including William K. Vanderbilt's Alva Base on Fisher Island, Marshall Alworth's home on Miami Beach, and more.

Book signing follows the talk. Dyno'Nite events celebrate the talents, accomplishments, and interests of the local community.
